Bio:
Set at the base of towering granite outcrops in Namibia’s striking Erongo Mountains, Ai Aiba Rock Painting Lodge is a characterful hideaway known for its dramatic setting and rich cultural heritage. Surrounded by ancient boulders and sweeping views of the bushveld, it’s a peaceful spot where nature, history, and relaxation come together beautifully.
The lodge’s 20 thatched, stone-built chalets are simple and comfortable, each with an en-suite bathroom and private veranda overlooking the rugged plains. The main lodge area is warm and welcoming, with a pool, open-air dining terrace, and cosy lounge spaces where guests gather for sundowners and hearty, home-style meals under the stars.
What makes Ai Aiba particularly special is its proximity to one of the largest collections of prehistoric rock art in Namibia. Guided walks lead you to ancient San (Bushman) rock paintings etched into the granite over thousands of years, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region’s earliest inhabitants.
Most people will stay at Ai Aiba just for one night on the way between Etosha National Park and Windhoek or vice versa. However, for those who choose to linger a little longer there is the option of nature drives, birdwatching, mountain biking and self-guided hiking trails, it’s an ideal stop for travellers keen to slow down, soak up the scenery, and connect with the landscape’s deep, timeless history.
