Bio:
Tucked away on the private Etosha Heights Reserve bordering Namibia’s famous Etosha National Park, Etosha Mountain Lodge offers a peaceful, understated safari experience with panoramic views over the plains and mopane woodlands. Perched on a hilltop, this is the kind of place where you wake to birdsong and coffee on your veranda, with the rising sun spilling over the horizon.
Formerly a hunting lodge, before renowned safari operator Natural Selection took control of the reserve and starting receiving photographic safari guests in 2016. Since then the reserve has gone from strength to strength helped by a largely porous fence between the reserve and Etosha National Park itself. Aside from the massive salt pan in the park itself the habitat on the Etosha Heights Reserve is very similar and wildlife viewing equally good. The huge benefit is that you are only sharing the experience with the few other people staying on the reserve. With Etosha getting busier and busier, especially during peak season, this is extremely attractive.
Activities here centre around game drives on the Etosha Heights Reserve, known for its strong populations of black and white rhino, as well as lion, leopard, and large herds of plains game.
The lodge itself features nine spacious, thatched chalets - each with its own private deck, en-suite bathroom, and simple, comfortable furnishings. There’s a relaxed main area with a pool, a bar, and an open-air dining space where guests gather in the evenings for wholesome dinners and a drink by the fire. It is of a more permanent, bricks and mortar design than we normally recommend, but the price-point for an exclusive Etosha safari experience and to be part of the reserve's re-wildling story makes it a great option.
