Bio:

Luambe National Park lies on the eastern bank of the Luangwa River nestled between the South and the North Luangwa National Parks, it certainly qualifies as one of Zambia's “hidden gems”.

This small but vibrant park spans approximately 254 square kilometres and provides a glimpse into the unspoiled beauty of Zambia's wilderness. Despite its modest size, Luambe boasts a diverse array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, and hippos, as well as over 200 bird species, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and birdwatchers alike.

What sets Luambe apart is its tranquil atmosphere and focus on sustainable tourism. Luambe Camp is the only eco-lodge operating in the park and it only has four bedrooms to take a maximum of eight visitors at a time. Whether exploring the park on game drives, fly-camping or walking safaris led by expert guides, guests are treated to the sights and sounds of Africa's untamed beauty. During the dry season, the Luangwa River becomes a lifeline for wildlife, offering exceptional opportunities to observe animals up close as they gather to drink and cool off.

In line with the whole feel of your stay in Luambe National Park, the camp is somewhat of a throw-back to the original days of safari in the Luangwa valley, the four rooms are of a simple tented design and overlook a beautiful stretch of the river, popular with the local hippos. Inside you will find a double or twin beds surrounded by a mosquito net, a table and chairs and large gauze windows, the covers of which can be rolled up to give almost panoramic views. At the back of the tent is a toilet, his and her sinks and bucket shower.

Whilst the wildlife in this park is not likely to be as prolific as other, more well-trodden safari areas there are special sights to reward guests, perhaps a large herd of eland or the glimpse of an elusive bush-pig. It is an ideal destination for those seeking off-the-beaten-path adventures, a stay at Luambe Camp combines untouched wilderness with a commitment to conservation.

Its remote location, stunning landscapes, and intimate encounters with wildlife make it a perfect destination for travellers looking to connect deeply with nature. Those that make the effort to venture as far as Luambe rarely leave disappointed.
