Bio:
Maxa is the newest addition to Ker and Downey's portfolio of lodges and camps in Botswana having opened in March 2025. We have no doubt that given Ker and Downey's experience and the quality of their other camps it will be another strong addition to the choice of luxury safari camps in Botswana.
Accommodating only a maximum of 12 guests in five practical, but comfortable, tented rooms. We understand that the luxury tents will sit on raised decks with the bedroom towards the front of the tent, to make the most of its riverine location, with an ensuite indoor bathroom behind. The rooms at Maxa will also all have a beautiful open-air bathrooms. There is also going to be one family tent which has two bedrooms and a shared ensuite bathroom, as well as the same outdoor bathroom as the other rooms.
Located north of the its famous sister properties - Shinde and Shinde Footsteps, in a finger of the Okavango Delta that extends west from the main panhandle. Maxa is sheltered by a canopy of mature ebony trees and overlooks the permanent Maxa Lagoon, allowing for great wildlife viewing from the comfort of the camp itself.
Ideally situated where the nutrient rich headwaters of the Okavango Delta meet the meandering channels of the Selinda Spillway, this fascinating area features a network of permanent and seasonally inundated channels and lagoons. It is an exclusive, raw area, allowing for a wild, authentic and explorative safari experience.
The philosophy of Maxa centers around discovery, learning and exploration while being immersed in nature. The camp’s appearance is low-key, aiming to blend into the surrounding environment, while providing comfort, shade and areas that not only invite guests to relax but to enjoy the birdsong, trees and rhythm of the Okavango Delta.
Access to and from Maxa will be by helicopter from Shinde airstrip, a short yet exciting scenic transfer over breathtaking stretches of the Okavango World Heritage Site.
