MONACHIRA CAMP

Bio:

Set to open in May 2025 Monachira Camp, is the newest member of Machaba Safari's excellent luxury safari camp portfolio in Botswana and Zimbabwe. This includes, among others, Gomoti Plains and Kiri Camp in the Okavango Delta, Ngoma Lodge in Chobe National Park, Machaba and Little Machaba in Khwai, Mana River Camp in Mana Pools and Verney's Camp in Hwange National Park. 

We will add to this page as we learn more about the camp. So far we understand that it will be a largely water-based camp situated in the northeast region of the Moremi Game Reserve. The majority of exploration will be done by mokoro (a type of traditional dug-out canoe), on boat safaris, during nature walks and short game drives are also possible at certain times of year.

Located in a beautiful region of the Okavango Delta, made up of a network of papyrus lined channels, which fringe floodplains and riverine islands. While here keep a look out for Okavango Delta specialities like the elusive sitatunga and the Pel's fishing owl. The Gudigwa Heronries, which provide a nesting ground for thousands of herons, egrets and storks are also not far away.

The camp will consist of 10 luxury tents, including two family units and we expect to see Machaba's signature authentic but very comfortable canvas feel to the rooms, along with relaxed, open plan central spaces. 

The camp is just a few minutes from the closest airstrip and welcomes children of all ages, if the camp is booked out on an exclusive use basis.
