Bio:

​​Tok Tokkie Trails offers an unforgettable guided walking experience in Namibia’s NamibRand Nature Reserve, one of the world’s few Gold Tier International Dark Sky Reserves. Over three days, guests explore the stunning desert landscape, from rolling sand dunes to rugged mountains, while learning about its unique wildlife and ecology. Suitable for anyone with moderate fitness it is less of a route march and more of a gentle hike of a few hours at a time, allowing you to savour and investigate the stunning landscape and its inhabitants. Nights are spent under the stars on stretcher beds, surrounded by the tranquility of the desert.

Day 1: Arrive at the Tok Tokkie Trails base by 2:00pm, where the adventure begins with a visit to the Namib Desert Environmental Education Trust (NaDEET), a not for profit organisation promoting environmental awareness in Namibia. A short drive leads to the trailhead, where you’ll trek through “fairy circles” and vegetated sand dunes to your first campsite. Enjoy a sundowner, a delicious dinner, and the unforgettable experience of sleeping under the stars in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, renowned as a International Dark Sky Reserve. Walking time: up to 2 hours.

 

Day 2: Wake up with early tea or coffee and a light breakfast before setting off in the cool morning. Explore the vibrant desert as your guide reveals its fascinating secrets, this might include how the flora and fauna adapt to the harsh conditions, and the unique “morning news” written in the sand. The day includes a walk through a mountain saddle and dry riverbed, with opportunities to spot endemic wildlife like dune larks or larger animals such as oryx and springbok. After a shaded lunch and a relaxing siesta, continue over picturesque dunes to your second overnight camp. The dramatic landscape of endless dunes and “fairy circles” offering spectacular photo opportunities before sunset. Walking time: Morning: up to 4.5 hours, afternoon: up to 2.5 hours.

 

Day 3: Begin your final day with coffee and breakfast at sunrise before walking through rolling dunes shaded by camelthorn trees. The morning trek is easy and concludes at the Tok Tokkie farmhouse at around 11:30am. Walking time: 3–3.5 hours. Naturally the exact trail route may vary at the discretion of Tok Tokkie Trails.
