Bio:

Olimba Camp is set to open in 2026, as the newest addition to Remote Africa Safaris specialist portfolio of camps in Zambia. It sits on the northern boundary of the iconic Nsefu Sector - one of the South Luangwa’s most storied wilderness areas.

Named after the legendary leopard Olimba, the star of several acclaimed wildlife documentaries, the camp occupies a remote wilderness location once used exclusively as a film base. Many of the animals captured on camera over the years can still be seen roaming the riverbanks and floodplains surrounding camp, making it an exceptional destination for travellers seeking a premium Zambia safari centred on big cats and authentic wilderness experiences.

Set beneath a grove of towering ebony trees, Olimba overlooks a sweeping stretch of the Luangwa River, with a productive wildlife lagoon just a short walk away. This peaceful and secluded setting offers a classic South Luangwa landscape - riverine forest, open floodplains and abundant wildlife from dawn to dusk. Its prime position in the northern Nsefu Sector ensures low vehicle densities and consistently high-quality viewing throughout the season.

Olimba Camp features just four spacious chalets,  crafted from canvas, screed and thatch to blend seamlessly into the environment. With flexibility for king or twin configuration, the camp sleeps up to eight guests and can be reserved exclusively for private groups of at least six, making it ideal for families, couples travelling together, or photographers seeking total exclusivity.

Each chalet offers an en-suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers, running water, and solar power - providing comfort without compromising on the natural bush ambience. Views extend directly into the surrounding ebony grove, where wildlife frequently passes through.

Meals are a highlight at Olimba - fresh, generous, and enhanced by produce from Remote Africa Safaris’ own vegetable garden. Between activities, camp life feels peaceful and unhurried, with wildlife often passing through the surrounding ebony grove.

Days unfold with a mix of day and night drives, led by some of the Luangwa’s most respected guides. The private Kawere hide offers exceptional photographic possibilities, while the seasonal carmine bee-eater hide brings guests face-to-face with one of Africa’s most spectacular bird spectacles. Cultural visits to nearby Mkasanga Village provide an uplifting glimpse of local life; the camp supports the village school through books, materials, teachers’ salaries and scholarships, and guests are greeted with warmth, song, and unmistakable Luangwa hospitality.

The South Luangwa is known as the Valley of the Leopard, and sightings here are frequent. The area also supports lion, large elephant herds, Thornicroft’s (Luangwa) giraffe, vast buffalo herds and, with luck, African wild dogs. Birders will find themselves equally absorbed, with nearly 470 species recorded in the region.

With its rich wildlife, low vehicle densities, and privileged position in the pristine northern Nsefu Sector, Olimba Camp offers an intimate and atmospheric safari - rooted in authenticity, guided by experience, and defined by the magic of the Luangwa.
