Bio:

Tumani Tented Camp is a new luxury safari lodge that is due to open in June 2026. Tumani is opening in the southern reaches of Botswana's Chobe National Park in an area known as Mababe. Mababe is an area slowly gaining more traction and making a name for itself on the Botswana safari circuit.

Tumani Tented Camp will complement its sister property MmaTsebe Tented Camp, which is located just 1.5 hours away by road to the west, or even quicker by a scenic helicopter transfer. We understand a new airstrip is also expected from June 2026, which will make access even easier.

Check out our '8-night Victoria Falls, Khwai and Mababe safari' for a trip that combines both MmaTsebe and Tumani into one incredible itinerary.

From the eastern fringes of the Okavango Delta, the Khwai River drains into the Mababe Depression which also fills with summer rains forming a vast wetland of some 2,600 acres. The notorious black cotton soil is tricky to navigate during the rains, but during the winter from June to October it really comes into its own, famed for its buffalo herds and the lion prides that follow them. Game drives will focus on the Mababe Depression as well as the Mababe Community Concession (NG41). We enjoyed exploring this area on our latest trip to Botswana and, despite the proximity to local communities we found the wildlife viewing to be good. We had sightings of lions, elephants, wild dogs and hyenas to mention as few as well as fantastic birdlife.

Tumani has capitalised on the growing desire for adventure along with Botswana's stunning night skies by adding a sleep-out deck to each tent. The platform can be accessed by a stairway from the verandah and if it gets too cold or you'd prefer the security of your room it is easy to slip back into your tent during the night. Due to weather conditions the sleep-out deck is available between April and October.

The camp will have one family tent and it accepts children over the age of 6. Families with children aged 6-11 will be required to book a private vehicle. As well as the family room, two roll-away beds are available in the camp that can be added to standard tents to produce a triple room.
