Bio:

Set on the banks of the ephemeral Ugab River in the heart of Damaraland, Ozondjou Trails Camp is a simple, friendly, tented camp that offers a rare chance to experience Namibia’s wild Damaraland while supporting vital conservation work.

The camp is managed in collaboration with the Elephant Human Relations Aid (EHRA), making it an ideal choice for travellers keen to learn about desert-adapted elephants and the people who share this dramatic, arid landscape. It combines particularly well with its sister camp in the Sossuslvei region - Desert Hills Glamping Camp as featured in our 'Iconic Namibia self-drive safari circuit'.

The camp’s comfortable, en-suite tents are unpretentious but well thought-out, each with canvas walls, shaded verandas, and sweeping views across the rocky plains to the Brandberg Massif in the distance. Evenings are spent around the campfire, swapping stories over a drink before sitting down to wholesome, home-cooked dinners beneath the stars.

The camp is booked on a two-night all-inclusive package and this includes all your activities:

  • an introduction to the area and meeting with a local farmer to learn about the challenges of making a living in this area and the impact of wildlife, particularly elephants.

  • on your full-day an elephant tracking activity is included with the EHRA field guides.

Ozondjou is a laid-back, no-frills camp with a big heart - offering guests not just a bed in the wilderness, but a meaningful connection to one of Namibia’s most fascinating and remote regions.

Having visited most of the camps in Damaraland, what really sets Ozondjou apart is the knowledge of the EHRA guides on the elephants in the area. They don't just take you to see these incredible animals, they know each individual in detail; when they were last seen, where they might have been and what they have been through. It is a fully immersive experience, beyond a normal safari game drive.
