Bio:
Tucked away at the quiet, southern end of Diani Beach, Kinondo Kwetu feels more like a private family retreat than a hotel. This charming beachfront property is owned and run by a Swedish-Kenyan family, and it’s the kind of place where personal touches, relaxed hospitality, and a genuine connection to the surroundings set the tone for your stay.
The property’s cottages, suites, and villas are dotted around shaded gardens just steps from the beach, each with Swahili-inspired details, airy interiors, and verandas that catch the sea breeze. Meals are fresh, varied, and often served al fresco beneath the trees or by the water. With no set menus or rigid schedules, it’s the perfect spot for those looking to truly unwind and make themselves at home.
While many guests are happy to spend their days lazing on the beach or by the pool, Kinondo Kwetu also offers plenty for the more active, including kayaking, snorkelling, horse riding, and yoga sessions. The nearby Kinondo sacred forest and local village visits offer a glimpse into the cultural side of this beautiful stretch of Kenya’s coast. It’s a peaceful, personable, and wonderfully uncommercialised place to round off a safari- or simply escape to the beach for a while.
While Kinondo Kwetu is an ideal destination for a beach escape in its own right, we will normally a stay here in combination with a safari elsewhere in Kenya. Given its low-key, laid-back vibe it would work particularly well combined with a camp like Kicheche Valley, in the Mara's Naboisho Conservancy. Or check out our 'Wild Kenya and Barefoot Beach Retreat' trip idea, that visits Kinondo Kwetu after time on safari in Laikipia at Moon's Camp and in the Samburu at Basecamp Samburu.
