Bio:
Gham Dhao Lodge is the first venture outside of India for the Evolve Back suite of lodges. It is located on a 11,000-hectare private reserve on the northern boundary of the famed Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) in Botswana. Formerly known as Haina Kalahari Lodge, it was completely refurbished and reopened in its new form in July 2023. It may also be referred to as Evolve Back Gham Dhao Lodge or simply Evolve Back, Kalahari.

The lodge has ten rooms in total in three different room types that are all spread out through the spread Kalahari bush. Our pick of the room types are the sky-luxe tents of which there are six. The tents are very spacious and built beneath a thatched canopy. They have separate sleeping and living areas as well as a large deck with various seating options. The pièce de résistance is without a doubt the stunning sleep-out deck which can be accessed via a wooden staircase at the end of the deck. Over the large four-poster bed there is a welcome air-conditioning system for those warm Kalahari nights.
The entry level rooms are the three Kalahari classic tents. These are much smaller than the sky-luxe tents and lack the show stealing sleep-out deck, however at around two-thirds of the price they are still comfortable and a great base to enjoy the activities on this beautiful reserve. We particularly like the large, comfy beds, his and hers sinks and indoor and outdoor showers. There is a also a family unit which is made up of two classic tents that share a deck.
The CKGR is the second largest game reserve in the world. It was established in 1961 to serve as a sanctuary for the San people to live in their traditional ways without the intrusion of the outside world. Guests can explore the private reserve on morning and afternoon game drives as well as being able to explore at night. As it is a private reserve game drives are able to go off-road in search of special sightings. Being able to interact with the San people on their terms is also on offer through immersive nature walks.
